“Hidden gem”

A gem becomes a gem when humans define it that way. Nature doesn’t define itself, nature doesn’t have opinion or aesthetic taste. How was the world when there were no humans yet?

Sasu Korom and Katalin Bitó in their project Hidden Gem deal with the question of how humans will transform nature. The foundation of their observations is their childhood memories of river Tisza in Hungary and one of its backwaters in Mártély. Backwater is called “holtág” in Hungarian, which means “dead branch” in literal translation. River Tisza’s wildlife is constantly decreasing, its fast current due to its straightened path deepens its bed, which makes the river unlivable for many water species. On the contrary, the “dead branch” with its undisturbed life seems like a mysterious paradise with its blooming natural life.

Sasu and Katalin process the topic by embodying and creating landscapes through movement and voice improvisations, dance choreography, and video works.

Are invited to present a work in progress called “ FR3QUENCY” that they will develop during their upcoming residency at Pick Up studios.

They all contribute and connect with hiphop culture. Their paths crossed in the hiphop community in the Netherlands. This research is based on _peeling my purple onion by Amisha Kumra which is about peeling away layers of taught movement to access and transmit authentic movement from within.

Each showing is between 20 and 30 min.

There will be a space for q.a. in between.
